With an abundance of amenities and tons of exciting things to do both on-site and throughout the San Jacinto Valley, Golden Village Palms RV Resort allows you to be as active as you want to be — which is great news for longtime Golden Village Palms resident Mildred (Millie) Turnure, who doesn’t seem to know how to slow down. The 102-year-old RVer has lived at the resort for more than 40 years and is as active, as involved, and as happy as ever to be at GVP.
“It’s nice because there are so many things to do and so many opportunities to get out and join in things,” says Turnure, who still enjoys time with friends participating in some of her favorite pastimes. “I’ve been shooting pool three times a week and cards about four times a week.”
A former athlete who was the talented pitcher of her softball team, Turnure today channels her competitive spirit toward staying fit, and her beloved Dodgers. “I used to play when I was young,” she said. “I had three no-hitter games, and one was a perfect game. I would like to see the Dodgers again. I’m a big Dodgers fan. To stay in shape, I just try to eat right and keep walking. I remember years ago, my doctor said, ‘Get rid of your bicycle and walk. Stay active!’”
That’s easy to do at Golden Village Palms, with a full calendar of daily and weekly activities, from golf, pickleball and billiards, to welcome receptions and mocktail parties, to live music poolside and the resort’s popular concert calendar. And then there’s the spectacular natural scenery that just makes you want to get out and take it all in.
“I don’t think anyone has been here as long as I have,” Turnure says. And she’s not going anywhere anytime soon. After all, after a big gala that GVP threw for her 100th birthday, and celebrations organized by the resort’s full-time residents for her 101st and 102nd birthdays, we all have birthday No. 103 to look forward to.
